Leaving Hue and going to Hoi An…
The bus was filled to the brim with tourists fleeing the rainy north of Vietnam.
The luggage compartment was completely full so two precious seats were taken up with backpacks and suitcases piled up to the ceiling. More suitcases were strewn down the aisle, along with tiny stools brought out to seat excess people, which included the co-pilot. The co-pilot’s seat was taken up by John, from California, whose job it was to wipe down the windows when everyone’s hot breath fogged it up.
I was wedged in somewhere up front and managed to get these shots. Goodbye to rainy Hue! And hello Hoi An, which although only a short distance away, was considerably drier and warmer…

Your photo create a narrative mystery. A world within the bus, dry but stable and the world outside, wet and changing.
You’re right, outside was cold and wet; inside, with all those bodies, was kind of steamy and spring-like. I was particularly fond of the little bouquet the driver had placed in the front window – it added to the otherworldliness of this trip.
I really like the darkness and mysteriousness of the series. It’s also funny that the colors of the flowers in the bus are represented outside by the different rain capes, I like that.
