These are apsara, the female spirits of the clouds that adorn the walls of the stone temples of Angkor Wat. They are covered with a rust-coloured lichen, which accents the colour of the stone in a contrasting way with the blue-tinted shadows in the vertical ‘dialogue’, and in a complimentary way with the warmer stone tones in the horizontal ‘dialogue’.
Dialogue between photos is really hard to achieve. I know, I have been trying for years. I have just reworked these photos from my 2007 trip to Cambodia which inspired several somewhat unsuccessful attempts at dialogues. So far I have only managed to put together photos from the same place and with the same lighting.
For me dialogue between photos from different places and lighting seems impossible, so the examples in the the Daily Post Challenge epitomize for me the word ‘challenge’.
