In the heart of Hanoi is the ‘lake of the returned sword’. England has the legend of the Lady of the Lake handing the sword Excalibur to King Arthur, and Hanoi has a giant turtle taking a magical sword away from an emperor and restoring it to its divine masters.
There are several islands in the lake – this beautiful red bridge that leads across to one of them with a small temple on it.
