This is one of those challenges where I had so many photos I couldn’t choose.
As a way of narrowing down my choices I decided to only choose places where I could also find examples of the next three items of Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge, essentially looking at a place every which way. The Cliffs of Moher on the west coast of Ireland was my first choice for looking down on things. But could I find looking up and sideways and underneath?
- Looking Down on Things
I see most of these shots are Al’s; I’m obviously a bit more leery of heights than I realized.
Looking down at the Branaunmore sea stack from the trail above. For scale note the tiny people further on down the trail, and the two-storey tower on the point.
Another view looking down at a sea stack.
Looking down from the Cliffs of Moher – this shot makes my stomach fall away, and is the only one in the ‘looking-down’ bunch that I actually took!
From one point we could see ferries winding their way around the sea stacks at the bottom of the cliffs and thought it would be fun to see them from a completely different perspective.
- Looking Up on Things
Looking up at the Branaunmore sea stack from the ferry, which made a side trip to the cliffs on our way back from the Aran Islands.
- View From the Side
The Branaunmore sea stack is just around the corner.

- View From the Bottom or Underneath
The ferry takes a side trip underneath the Cliffs of Moher.
My artsy shot for this post: the Cliffs of Moher run through Psykopaint.
No puffins? 😦
I tried several times to see puffins but they just didn’t seem to be around, sniff…
I tried to find them all my life wherever they were supposed to be – no such luck ever. They have a way of making themselves invisible. My last try was Angelsey. I boarded a boat named “Puffin Tours” or some such. We saw lots and lots of other birds. The captain kept telling us to watch out for orange beaks, but there weren’t any. The puffins fell prey to brown rats, he admitted at long last. Oh rats!

Oh dear…
We were in Anglesey trying to see puffins. Was this the Puffin Cruise from Beaumaris? Or the cruise a bit further down to Puffin Island? In both cases the sea was too rough so the cruises weren’t even going. All my puffin sightings were on paintings and t-shirts etc. Sounds like I may have missed some great shots of rats!
It was near Puffin Island. The boat went quite close. The should rename their boat, but then nobody might come.
I don’t think Rat Island would be a very popular destination!
That is place where you could take a wrong step easily. Beautiful photos.
