I think Ireland probably has more rocks than any other country in the world.
And the Aran Island of Inisheer has the most rocks in all of Ireland.
To deal with all the rocks the inhabitants of this island use them to build fences.
More and more fences.
There are fences whose entire purpose seems to be to keep other rocks from escaping.
They build their castles out of rocks (surrounded by rock fences).
All the buildings are made out of stone, and the tombstones as well. The roofs are often slate which is of course another rock.
And signs… like this sign for bike rentals carved in stone.
Carved into a smooth slate stone this is the ‘Welcome to Inisheer’ sign in Irish.
There are these strange and wonderful benches built out of fantastical rocks.
There is a stone entryway in a stone fence that leads to a rocky beach.
This ancient monolith shows that there is a long history in Ireland with rocks.
Captivating! Seems like we are in the world of the Game of Thrones.
The Game of Thrones was filmed mostly in the north of Ireland. And if they filmed somewhere you can be sure the locals were sure to mention it. No one in this place mentioned it so it appears to be a place they missed – maybe next season!
Appreciate the info. Thanks.
A wonderful selection of rocks, both natural and modified by man.
Beautiful. Monochromatic.
50 shades of grey!
You could well be right. Al you need now are volunteers to count them all 😉 Great images!
