September 29, drive along the Connemara Coast.
After stopping at the Murrisk Friary and Coffin ship sculpture near Westport we made our way southwest along the Connemara coast ending up in the village of Roundstone that evening.
Old Head Blueway.
Aasleagh Waterfall.
Killary Harbour with ‘Fairy Tree’.
Kylemore Abbey.
Kylemore Abbey was impressive-looking from the outside but there were 13 coaches in the parking lot and a 13€ charge to get in. We skipped it other than a short walk around the lake to stretch our legs. You rang? A call board to let the servants know who needs them – I, of course, would be in ‘Her Graces Bedroom’.
Omey Strand & Cleggan.
At Joyce’s Bar we sat in the sun and enjoyed a cold Danish beer (Tuborg) accompanied by melting Dutch cheese (Baby Bels), watched over by a friendly Irish donkey.
Ballyconneely.
Yellow Gorse blooms and purple heather make a tapestry of subtle colours at the Ballyconneely Bog.
Scan of Lonely Planet page showing our route that day.
Messing around with photo apps on the Ballyconneely Bog (Psyko Paint and Stackables).
- Our next stop was Gurteen Beach near Roundstone.
