Gina*, the Information Goddess, gathers us up for a session of whale watching in Puerto Escondido, Mexico.
There were about 12 boats heading out for the first day of the whale-watching season that began on December 16 in 2019. The whale spotter on our boat.
Our boat was to first to spot a whale, but the whale spotter let the rest of the boats know and then boats started converging on us from everywhere.
A bunch of snorkelers accidentally got caught up in our search for a grey whale.
“La cola, la cola,” the other lucky passengers were calling out excitedly to each other. “The tail, the tail!”
It was a bit tricky to take photos of this huge grey whale as you never knew when or where he would suddenly leap out of the water.
The trip over we headed back to Playa Angelito – another good beach to visit in Puerto Escondido.
*Gina Machorro, the Information Goddess, when she isn’t out in the middle of everything going on, can often be found in the tourist information booth down near the main beach in Puerto Escondido.
