As we were leaving the city of Alajuela we spotted a viewpoint for the Volcán Poás just off the road, and decided to explore a bit more.
Poás Volcano creates its own cloudy sky.
Sign near the entry: do not bring food in the area near the crater or the lagoon.
Map of the Parque Nacional Volcán Poás.
We headed straight to the mirador (lookout) to see the volcano in action.
The main crater is at 2574 M (8444 ft).
Another view.
The volcano also contained several ‘senderos’ through the jungle.
There’s something about tropical vegetation that catches at my imagination.
This plant looks like a volcano!
Red bromeliads growing high on the trees in the Costa Rican jungle.
Umbrella plant.
From the jungle we caught a glimpse of the turquoise crater lake.
The description of the ‘Laguna Botos’.
And a panorama shot of its gorgeous turquoise waters.
Volcán Poás is near Alajuela. From here we went on to La Fortuna where another Volcano awaited us: Volcán Arenal.
Oh I am so intrigued by your volcano photos. Thanks so much for playing along 😀
