Avatar Grove near Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island, Canada.
Green river on the way to Avatar Grove. Avatar Grove, a forested area with the ‘world’s gnarliest cedar’ near Port Renfrew.
Canada’s gnarliest tree.
Close up of gnarly.
Despite being rainforest the sun was out in full, almost blinding, force.
Looking up at an ancient tree.
Carved wood owl on a tree.
Wooden walkway through Avatar Grove.
Trail made up of sawn steps in a whole log in.
Moss-covered trees.
From Avatar Grove we drove along the somewhat questionable road to seek out ‘Big Lonely Doug’, the last Douglas Fir left standing in a huge clear cut. First we saw this sign.
Then the remains of a huge cross-cut log.
Here he is, the last man standing, Big Lonely Doug(las Fir)!
More of travelling in BC, Canada.
