October is grape harvest time in Rioja.
As we came into the region we immediately found the harvest in full swing.
Luscious bunch of purple grapes.
Huge bins full of grapes!
The streets of Laguardia reek of wine – in a good way – you can get drunk from the fumes just walking around the town!
We were on the wine route.
Entrance to a winery.
Al has a taste of the raw wine directly from the tank where it’s fermenting.
The walls in this cellar are made up of aged bottles of wine.
The winemaster decants some fresh wine for us.
A quick tapa lunch and then we’re off to see a winery with its own hotel designed by Frank Gehry.
More on our October 2014 trip to Northern Spain.
