In the Costa Rican jungle at Hanging Bridges, Arenal, a perfect spotlight appeared on this fan palm. I took two shots of it, one zoomed in to show off details of the light and the other to show the setting and scale.
Around another bend in the path was this other plant – it looks like an alien being out of a sci-fi movie, and I haven’t yet been able to identify it. Does anyone have any idea what it is?

Great photos! Don’t know what it is but it sure does look like an alien plant!
Hmmm we’ve been to Costa Rica too! I was infatuated with the palms. Right off the airplane in San Jose we tried to go hug a palm but the airport security guys waved their guns at us 😦
they must have been warned about dangerous Canadian tree-huggers!
