Some sprightly elders we have met while travelling the world.

This old guy acted as our unofficial guide, pointing out the best spots to take photos at Ananda Temple in Bagan, Myanmar. The old man and the sea – he told me he caught eight fish that morning using only this reel and line. Note the electrical tape wrapping his fingers to keep the line from cutting as he ‘reels’ in the fish. This cheerful lady was part of a troupe of older dancers called ‘Las Margaritas’ in Tonala, Mexico.
The brother of the owner of our favourite restaurant in Agra. Even at 67 he was up and down the steep narrow stairs of the restaurant as if they were nothing. He managed to lure us back every night with specials that were made up on the spot, “special tonight for third time visit, beer only 70 rupees…”
Old lady proudly shows off the grapes she’s been picking in northern Portugal. Like parts of northern Spain we visited in 2014, there are only old people left in these villages to do all the work – all the young people have left for the cities. It continued to sprinkle but the sun was soon out in full force, and this lady was off to meet her friends for the Spanish merienda.
